Following my last posting I decided to research all the top adult tube sites, and these are my findings ranked by feb 2010 Alexa ranking (sep 2008 rank)

There seems to be a battle of the big adult porn sites among youporn, redtube and pornhub all vying for the top position. Both youporn and redtube have experienced a decline in adult traffic in the last couple of months. Pornhub’s rise has been meteoric up until recently and is now showing signs of peaking and may not dislodge youporn from the top position after all.

The original pioneers of free adult tube sites, extube, pornotube and yuvutu are showing mixed results. Yuvutu is gaining share, xtube has halted a downward trend and pornotube seems to have got sucked into the death spiral. Pornotube was onces the leader, is it now pioneering the downward route for all the outer porn tube sites to follow?

I was searching google for free porn the other day and came across youporn. The full title is YouPorn.com Lite (BETA( - Free Porn). Youporn has been around for two years and although it is not the oldest adult tube site – xtube is – it has shot up to become the most visited. That is if you believe Alexa. Well I believe Alexa, and I wonder how did it manage to get to that spot?

Knowing a thing or two about the internet and having worked 15 years in the adult insdutsry, these are the reasons I think explain youporn’s meteoric rise:

• it is free
• the user interface is very simple and not overloaded with features
• you can download videos – though in flash only
• the content is pretty good (there are other blogs that claim the content is stolen but I am unaware of this)
• download speeds are reasonably fast – faster than youtube

However I find that youporn has many downsides as far as free porn sites go:

• no community spirit
• no feature for writing comments (they had it but they disabled it)
• chat room is full of trolls and no video chat
• no picture section (there are thumbnails of the videos though)
• no stories section
• too many germans (LOL!)

Then there is redtube which seems to be a me too version of youporn, and is seems to be catching up with yourporn rapidly. It may even topple youporn from the top spot which is kind of ironica, given that a few months earlier youporn overtook pornotube and yuvutu, both of which clearly inspired youporn: pornotube’s colour scheme and yuvutu’s matrix layout.

Signs of youporn’s probable eventual demise are already starting to appear on the Alexa ranking. The adult site’s reach has dropped 25% since June. Watch that space!
